Adrian Newey has been with Red Bull in Formula 1 since the project started in 2005 – with more or less involvement – and is a key element in the success of the Milton Keynes team. His more than proven qualities do not go unnoticed and now he is allegedly a target of Aston Martin… which is willing to go to “crazy” lengths to hire him.
The Motorsport.com website writes that team owner Lawrence Stroll presented the renowned engineer with a millionaire offer during the Saudi Arabia GP weekend. The Canadian businessman has an ambitious project to reach the top of F1, which has already included the construction of state-of-the-art facilities (including a new wind tunnel), the hiring of key members, and the signing of a factory partnership with Honda from 2026.
With a top driver already in their ranks – Fernando Alonso, whether he stays long term or not – Newey’s arrival would be a strong argument for Aston Martin on all levels: to aspire to have a car capable of fighting at the top, to attract top drivers, and to attract sponsorships that would further consolidate the team’s financial position.
One of the potential consequences of Newey’s hiring by Aston Martin could be convincing Max Verstappen to join the project, thanks to the good relationship between them. However, there is also interest from Mercedes due to Lewis Hamilton’s possible move to Ferrari, in addition to considering the contract that binds the Dutchman to Red Bull… until 2028.
The Christian Horner case has shaken up the Milton Keynes team and may have created some internal tensions. Since the situation came to light, Verstappen’s future has been called into question, as well as Newey’s… whose attempts to be hired by Red Bull’s rivals have always failed in the past. At the end of last year, the “wizard” ensured that he intends to stay with the Austrians in the long term, but circumstances have changed since then after the controversy involving Horner.
