One of the riders at significant risk of leaving MotoGP at the end of this season is Augusto Fernández. The rider knows he will not continue with Red Bull GasGas Tech3 or KTM, and with modest results and limited openings, there are already rumors linking him to the World Superbike Championship with GYTR GRT Yamaha.
The Spaniard mentioned that a crucial period for his future is approaching: ‘Let’s see if in this second half we can perform as we know we can perform and be a little bit more at the front. Especially these first races will be important for the future for me’.
For now, Fernández aims to explore all possible options to remain in MotoGP, as he stated: ‘Personally I want to try everything possible to stay on this paddock for sure. There are still some options. It’s not looking great, but I want to do all the meetings possible until the very last moment to try and stay here. And then we’ll see. Of course I’m open to everything’.
The World Superbike Championship is an alternative that Fernández is not closing the door on: ‘There are some Superbike calls – interesting calls also. I’m open for everything’.
Despite this, the #37 emphasized his belief that he has the level for MotoGP and will try to prove it in the remainder of the season: ‘I think I have the level, I’m still young, to perform, and I can do a lot of things here in MotoGP, but we’ll see. I’m focused on get the best out of this weekend first, and of course all the second part of the championship and see if we can be back to my level, because I think I have a lot more than I’ve shown in the first part of the season. Let’s see if I can be back to my feeling with the bike and if we can perform good’.
