It wasn’t the most successful weekend for Augusto Fernández at the start of the MotoGP championship. The rider was 18th on Saturday and 17th on Sunday and, despite missing out on the chance to score points, he felt signs of improvement especially on Sunday, which he was pleased about.
Speaking to journalists, the Red Bull GASGAS Tech3 rider said he felt better than ever this Sunday’s race and with the best feelings since the pre-season: ‘In that group I was in with Fabio [Quartararo], of the eleven, twelve or thirteen who were in the points or close to the points, well, I haven’t felt like that since the start of the season, to be honest. It was the best feeling I’ve had all pre-season. So we’re going to go out like this in Portimão, to build from here. Let’s see if we can get to the top…’.
With the intention of starting to improve from here, Fernández admitted that some strong changes are taking place to the set-up of his bike, with the feeling that it’s now in his hands to improve:
– Well, we’re making drastic changes. We’re finding my base; we’ve gone round, we’ve gone down, we’ve gone backwards and forwards. […] I still have that feeling that maybe now it’s my turn to do my bit and get to know it all. But it was the first time we touched on this problem and I managed to ride well.
