Max Verstappen, representing Red Bull Racing, took the lead at the start of the race. The date was March 24, 2024, and it was the third round of the Formula 1 World Championship, known as the Australian Grand Prix.
The calendar for the 2025 Formula 1 season has been revealed and includes a record 24 races. The Australian Grand Prix will once again open the season, as it has done since 1996, with the exception of the 2020 race, which was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Bahrain took over as the season opener in 2021, but Melbourne will reclaim its position in 2025. This means that the highly anticipated debut of Lewis Hamilton with Ferrari will take place in Australia.
The Australian Grand Prix will take place from March 14 to 16, followed by the Chinese Grand Prix at the Shanghai International Circuit from March 21 to 23. There will be a one-week break before the Japanese Grand Prix in Suzuka, forming a triple-header along with the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian Grands Prix.
The Miami Grand Prix, held at the Miami International Autodrome, will continue to be held in May, as it has been since its creation in 2022.
The European leg of the season will begin with the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix in Imola and end with the Italian Grand Prix in Monza in September.
However, while the circuits listed on the calendar remain the same for the 2024 season, there have been some minor changes to the race schedule over the summer months.
The Canadian Grand Prix, which stands out as the only race outside of Europe, has swapped places with the Spanish Grand Prix. This will be the last time the Spanish Grand Prix will take place in Barcelona.
Before the summer break, Hungaroring will host the last race, followed by the Belgian Grand Prix in Spa, which will remain at the same time as the previous year but will be an earlier round.
The season will continue with the Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvoort from August 29 to 31, followed by the Italian Grand Prix in Monza a week later.
After the race in Monza, there will be a two-week break before the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, which will still be held in September.
Baku will no longer be consecutive with the Singapore Grand Prix, and there will be a two-week gap between the race at Marina Bay Circuit and the second race in America.
The United States Grand Prix at Circuit of the Americas will be a double-header with the Mexican Grand Prix, and the Sao Paulo Grand Prix will take place two weeks later.
Despite some criticism from the drivers, the decision to end the season with three consecutive weekends in Las Vegas, Qatar, and Abu Dhabi remains unchanged.
The last race with the current generation of F1 cars will be held at Yas Marina Circuit from December 5 to 7, just before the major rule changes in the sport.
F1 has not announced whether Sprint races will continue in 2025 or which circuits will host the revised format. The new format is scheduled to debut this weekend. 🥁 Introducing… the FIA Formula 1 World Championship calendar for 2025! #F1 pic.twitter.com/qrBB52ncRd
