Ayumu Sasaki was in top form in Moto3 qualifying at Phillip Island and took pole position moments ago.
Ayumu Sasaki was quickest after the first lap, with David Alonso and Vicente Pérez following close behind. The #71 completed his first attacking lap in 1:36.654s, a gap of 0.492s to Alonso.
After Deniz Oncu moved up to third place, it was Collin Veijer’s turn to do so before the riders went to the garage to prepare their final attacks.
On his fifth lap Sasaki once again showed superior speed and improved his time once more, now to 1:36.539s, and despite Joel Kelso’s improvement (second) he was 0.136s behind his opponent who thus seemed to have pole position virtually guaranteed.
The session ended shortly afterwards with Sasaki confirming the best time and first place on the grid.
