The latest edition of the Beijing Motor Show was the stage for the unveiling of several new models from BYD, the world’s leading Chinese manufacturer of new energy vehicles, including the Bao 5, an off-road vehicle from BYD’s new luxury brand, Fang Cheng Bao.
The super hybrid off-road SUV is equipped with pioneering technologies such as DMO and the intelligent body control system BY, DiSus-P.
Designed under the direction of German designer Wolfgang Egger, the Bao 5 combines industrial aesthetics with robust power, providing unmatched stability and safety to the driver.
The Bao 5 has a length of 4.89 meters, a width of 1.97 meters, and a height of 1.92 meters, along with a wheelbase of 2.80 meters.
The off-road capabilities of the Fang Cheng Bao SUV are enhanced by a ground clearance of 22 cm and approach and departure angles of 35 and 32 degrees, respectively.
The all-terrain SUV is based on the “DMO Super Hybrid” platform that promises a transformative off-road experience, while promoting energy efficiency and empowering each user with cutting-edge technology.
BYD revealed that the DMO leverages the brand’s expertise in high-performance chassis, intelligent electric all-wheel drive, and four-wheel drive powertrains, resulting in a balance between vehicle safety, off-road performance, and energy consumption.
This hybrid SUV features a powertrain that combines a 1.5-liter turbo gasoline engine with 184 hp, which is combined with two electric motors and all-wheel drive. The electric unit installed on the front axle develops 272 hp, while the rear motor adds another 387 hp for a total power of 687 hp. The total range in the CLTC cycle is 1200 km and the acceleration time from 0 to 100 km/h is 4.8 seconds.
The electric motors are powered by a 31.8 kWh Blade lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery, which can be charged in 100 kW fast chargers and allows recharges from 30% to 80% of the battery capacity in 16 minutes.
It has not been revealed yet if BYD’s luxury brand will enter the national market, and therefore, this Bao 5 SUV will initially only be available in the Chinese market, where according to the Chinese press, it has already received over 10,000 order requests in just three days.
