The unexpected occurred this Friday in Losail. In the final minutes of a delayed MotoGP qualifying session, torrential rain poured down on the Qatar circuit.
It’s not unheard of for rain to fall during a GP program in Qatar, but it is undoubtedly a very rare event. Yet, this Friday night in Losail, it became a reality.
This Moto3 session was neither affected nor shortened due to the weather conditions. Both Moto2 and MotoGP sessions are expected to proceed as usual.
With the track wet and the improbability of these conditions repeating, it seems unlikely that anyone would want to risk going out on the track, especially in the case of Moto2 – where there’s still another qualifying session. MotoGP has a different story, as this afternoon’s session will be the only one determining the direct qualifiers for the second phase of qualifying.
