BMW has been a partner of MotoGP for several years, providing the official safety car. However, it has not taken the step to enter the premier class as a participating manufacturer – although it has a factory team in the Superbike World Championship.
The name of the Bavarian manufacturer has been associated with a possible arrival of a new constructor in the future. Nothing has been confirmed, and when asked by the Marca newspaper if BMW is the manufacturer closest to joining MotoGP, Dorna’s CEO, Carmelo Ezpeleta, remained tight-lipped.
The Spaniard stated: ‘We don’t say anything to anyone. Manufacturers know how the championship is, what we do, and decide whether to come or not. At the moment, we have nothing’.
