The BMW M Team WRT’s driver lineup for the World Endurance Championship (WEC) is complete. The Bavarian manufacturer will make its debut this year in the top Hypercar class with its LMDh M Hybrid V8.
After already announcing Dries Vanthoor and Sheldon van der Linde, BMW has now revealed that Vanthoor will have Marco Wittmann and newcomer Raffaele Marciello as teammates in car #15. In car #20, van der Linde will be joined by René Rast and Robin Frijns.
Andreas Roos, director of BMW M Motorsport, said: ‘We will compete in the 2024 WEC season with a very strong selection from our factory driver squad in the Hypercar class. We have an excellent combination of driving skills and experience in both the BMW M Hybrid V8 cars – on the one hand, experience with our LMDh car, and on the other hand, experience from the championship and Le Mans in particular. Like Sheldon van der Linde, Marco Wittmann has already driven the BMW M Hybrid V8 in the IMSA. All the other drivers – including our newcomer Raffaele Marciello – have already tested the car and will continue to do so intensively in the coming months’.
Vincent Vosse, team principal of BMW M Team WRT, said: ‘With our driver lineup in the Hypercar class, we have a dream team. We have worked with Sheldon van der Linde, Dries Vanthoor, Robin Frijns, and also with René Rast for several years and know them very well. Marco Wittmann and Raffaele Marciello are new to us, but the first tests together went very well. Now, as a team, we will be under some pressure because with these drivers, we certainly won’t lack speed in the cockpit’.
