The BYD announced that it sold 3,024,417 electrified vehicles (BEV and PHEV) in 2023, which represents a growth of 61.9% compared to the previous year.
In a note sent to the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, and revealed by “CarNewsChina,” the Chinese company revealed that sales of 100% electric vehicles totaled 1,574,822 units, with an annual growth of 72.8%, while sales of plug-in hybrid models reached 1,438,084 units, representing an annual growth of 52%.
The sales of electric vehicles outside of China have shown a growth trajectory for BYD, reaching a total of 242,766 vehicles sold in 2023. This number reflects an annual growth of 334%, which, according to the company, surpasses the accumulated sales abroad over the past two decades.
It should be noted that the Chinese brand had announced at the beginning of 2023 the goal of selling 3 million vehicles, a number that it ultimately achieved, despite initial skepticism from analysts.
In addition to the growth in car sales, BYD also revealed that over the past year it has taken a prominent position in battery production, reaching an installed capacity of 150.909 GWh in 2023. In this way, the company ensures a global position, being only surpassed by CATL.
