The National Road Safety Authority (ANSR), the National Republican Guard (GNR) and the Public Security Police (PSP) are launching the Road Safety Campaign “Behind the wheel, the mobile phone can wait” on Tuesday, November 28, as part of the National Enforcement Plan for 2022.
The campaign, which runs until December 4, aims to alert drivers to the negative and even fatal consequences of improper use of mobile phones while driving. In a statement, ANSR reminds that at 50 km/h, looking at the phone for 3 seconds is the same as driving a distance of 42 meters with your eyes closed, equivalent to a line of 10 cars.
Using a mobile phone while driving increases the chances of having an accident by four times, causing an increase in reaction time to unexpected situations.
The awareness-raising actions of ANSR take place in parallel with road enforcement operations on the following days and locations:
November 28, at 08:00: A1 – Alverca tolls, North/South direction;
November 29, at 14:00: Miguel Torga Avenue, Chaves;
November 30, at 09:00: A4 – Quintanilha, Bragança;
December 4, at 09:30: Republic Square, Porto.
