After the accident in the second free practice, the Saturday of the Abu Dhabi Formula 1 Grand Prix was not much better for Carlos Sainz. The Ferrari man finished the qualifying in 16th, failing to make it to Q2.
The Madrid driver explained that the late exit from the garage and the traffic conditioned the result: ‘It was a difficult day for me. We found ourselves in a challenging situation by leaving the pits late due to a small problem with the front wing. Then, the traffic during the flying lap didn’t help and I couldn’t make a clean lap, so that was my mistake’.
The starting position promises not to make Sainz’s task any easier, but he emphasized that he hasn’t given up: ‘So far it has been a complicated weekend, but the race is still to come and we will attack to recover and fight to score important points for the team. It’s not over yet’.
