More news for Ferrari at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix of Formula 1. Carlos Sainz has suffered appendicitis and will have to miss this weekend’s round in Jeddah, where he will be replaced by Oliver Bearman – current driver of the Ferrari Driver Academy and Formula 2.
After yesterday’s free practice sessions, Sainz complained of stomach problems, even talking about the ‘hardest day’ he had ever had in an F1 car. This morning came the diagnosis of appendicitis, which requires surgery.
Being before the third free practice and qualifying, Ferrari called Bearman to replace the Spaniard. The young British driver was in Saudi Arabia for F2 and will have the chance to make his debut in F1 – similar to what happened with Nyck de Vries at the 2022 Italian GP, when he had to replace Alexander Albon at Williams after he also suffered… appendicitis.
