Charles Leclerc was a constant presence in the top three of the Mexican Grand Prix of Formula 1 after starting from pole position and finishing third. The Ferrari man had a small setback right after the start in a collision with Sergio Pérez (Red Bull) that caused damage to the front wing of his car. On the other hand, he was unable to hold off Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) behind him in a later stage of the race.
The Monegasque spoke of a tough race for him, admitting that after the red flag he did not have the means to defend or react to Hamilton – finishing with the best possible result, but not the desired one:
“It was complicated. I was caught between the two Red Bulls at the beginning and unfortunately Checo and I touched, which caused some damage to the car and Checo to retire. Later we had some difficulties with the hard [tires] after the restart. Lewis was very strong with the mediums and had very little degradation, staying ahead of us. It wasn’t where we wanted to finish, but we maximized our result.”
