Danilo Petrucci suffered terrifying injuries last week due to a fall while training in motocross. The World Superbike rider has already been discharged from the hospital, where he underwent surgery for fractures in his jaw, collarbone, and scapula. Now follows a long recovery period, but he hopes to return for the Misano round in June.
The Italian began by saying: ‘I’m better, I’m out of the hospital. I’m almost fine. As you can see, the jaw suffered a major impact, I broke it into several parts, as well as the collarbone and the scapula. Unfortunately, I also cut a nerve in the jaw’.
After an accident with serious implications, Petrucci confessed that he feared the worst and thanked the doctors: ‘I’m very happy to be here because first of all, I’m alive. At one point, when I was falling, I didn’t believe I could tell this. So, I am very grateful to the doctors at the Torreta de Ancona hospital, where I have been these days. Doctor De Feudis, who urgently operated on my jaw, put me and screws, did this masterpiece. I was really in bad shape. Doctor Balercia, head of maxillofacial, and Doctor Pascarella who operated on me yesterday morning on the collarbone and put another plate on me. In addition to two plates and 20 screws that I have in my hand, they put me three more plates. It’s a bit difficult, but I’m glad to be back home’.
Petrux is aware that recovery will take time, but he pointed out a possible return date: ‘I’m happy to be back home. It will take some time now, but I think we’ll see each other in Misano. I think I’ll be able to be there. I can’t eat, so maybe for the first time in my life, I’ll lose weight because I can only eat liquids. So, it will be difficult, but as I said, I’m very happy to be talking to you here. I truly thank everyone, everyone who wrote to me, thank you again’.
