Returning to the scene of his first Moto3 victory, David Alonso was the fastest in the free practice session for the British GP at Silverstone – setting a new lap record at the track, beating the previous record by a second.
The Colombian from CFMOTO Valresa Aspar was the first to complete a flying lap and remained consistently at the top, despite other riders also leading at times – Iván Ortolá (MT Helmets-MSi/KTM), Tatsuki Suzuki (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP), Ryusei Yamanaka (MT Helmets-MSi/KTM), and Ángel Piqueras (Leopard Racing/Honda).
On his final lap, after already holding the lead, Alonso improved to 2m09.600s, setting the fastest-ever Moto3 lap at Silverstone. This put him 0.383s ahead of Ortolá.
In third place was Suzuki, over half a second behind, with Piqueras and Yamanaka rounding out the top five. Daniel Holgado (Red Bull GasGas Tech3), third in the championship, finished ninth in this session.
