Once again, David Alonso started as the fastest in the Moto3 French GP, leading this morning’s free practice in Le Mans… and by a very significant margin with a new lap record.
After the first flying laps, Scott Ogden (MLav Racing/Honda) was the leader, but was soon overtaken, with several riders taking turns at the top until Joel Kelso (BOE Motorsports/KTM) managed to hold the position for about four minutes.
Subsequently, Riccardo Rossi (CIP Green Power/KTM) and Daniel Holgado (Red Bull GasGas Tech3) took turns at the top. With about 21 minutes gone, Alonso (CFMoto Gaviota Aspar) took the lead for the first time.
The Colombian improved his time twice and never left the first place. He finished with a time of 1m40.792s, beating Filippo Farioli (SIC58 Squadra Corse/Honda) by 0.788s. Ogden was third, 0.987s behind. The rest of the pack was more than a second behind the leader, with the top five rounded out by Holgado and Tatsuki Suzuki (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP).
