David Alonso started the Moto3 testing on the top. The opening day in Jerez featured three separate sessions, with the fastest time coming in the final session.
The promising Colombian completed the best lap in 1m44.356s to be the fastest rider of the day. He edged out José Antonio Rueda (Red Bull KTM Ajo) by just two milliseconds – the Spaniard had set the pace in the second session. Daniel Holgado (Red Bull GasGas Tech3), who did not participate in the final session of the day, finished third, 0.053s behind the leader.
The top four riders were within less than a tenth of a second, as Collin Veijer (Liqui Moly Husqvarna IntactGP) in fourth was 0.089s off Alonso’s pace. The top five was completed by Adrián Fernández (Leopard Racing/Honda), 0.132s behind the leader. The best rookie was David Almansa (Rivacold Snipers Team/Honda), in eighth place.
