The season break didn’t go as planned for Deniz Öncü. The Red Bull KTM Ajo rider in Moto2 injured his left hand during training last week and had to undergo surgery.
The incident occurred on Friday in Turkey. The Turkish rider suffered fractures in his left hand and wrist and was operated on by Dr. Özcan Koçanlı at the Antalya Lara Anatolia Hospital.
A statement from Red Bull KTM Ajo confirmed ‘an intra-articular fracture of the left distal radius with comminution and left scaphoid’, and Öncü was discharged this Tuesday.
Now, Öncü faces a recovery period post-surgery. It has not been disclosed whether he will be able to compete in the next round of the championship, the Dutch GP, from June 28 to 30. For now, the rider has two weeks to recover.
