Christopher Bell is the only Toyota driver to secure a spot among the final four in the Next-Generation era of NASCAR. The 2024 Cup season has been a tumultuous journey for Bell, a driver for Joe Gibbs Racing. Although he has won two races and secured a spot in the playoffs, his performance has been lackluster compared to his teammate. Additionally, he has been unlucky to be involved in several unfortunate incidents throughout the season.
Once again, luck thwarted Bell’s chances at the Enjoy Illinois 300 at Gateway. Despite facing an engine issue that slowed him down, he managed to finish seventh thanks to his previous lead in the race and the help of his experienced teammate.
During a podcast, Denny Hamlin, another Joe Gibbs Racing driver, praised Bell’s performance and stated that he could be a championship contender if he qualifies for the season finale in Phoenix. Hamlin was impressed with Bell’s result at Gateway and his speed on flat tracks in recent weeks.
In a post-race interview with the press, Bell expressed his confusion about what went wrong with his car and how he ended up in that situation. Although he was happy to salvage something from the race, he was disappointed with the overall result.
If Bell can regain his form and consistency like last season, he could be a true contender, as predicted by Hamlin. Among all drivers in the current Next-Generation era grid, Bell has the most experience in the Championship-4, having reached the final in 2022 and 2023. He hopes to settle all scores in 2024 and secure a crucial victory.
