Matthias Walkner will miss the Dakar 2024 after suffering a severe crash last week while training in the United States of America, which required surgery and two more surgeries are yet to come. The injuries were to his leg.
Pit Beirer, the Red Bull KTM Motorsports Director, appeared on ServusTV, where he spoke about Walkner’s accident, revealing some details while emphasizing that he does not want to talk about the end of his career yet:
– It was a shock for us. It was dusty, the sun was low, and he jumped into a very deep hole. He badly injured his foot, ankle, and ankle joint. He now has to return home, then we will see with the doctors. I don’t want to talk about the end of his career yet.
This Wednesday, Walkner is expected to return home, followed by an extensive recovery process that, according to Beirer, involves two more surgeries. At the moment, the rider is speaking normally and in good spirits, with the pain improving.
