With the recent changes made in the last few weeks, the upcoming MotoGP season promises to be one of the most thrilling ever. Carlo Pernat, a rider’s manager, has offered some insights into what 2024 might bring.
The Italian, quoted on GPOne.com, said: ‘The next season will be a beautiful battle because Ducati has the best bike. Will Jorge Martín leave Ducati? Will he go to the factory team or not? Because Ducati has the best bike, Dall’Igna is very good because he rewards meritocracy, what happens or doesn’t happen on the track is no longer his fault. Martín and Bastianini will fight for a place with the factory bike on the track. It will be decisive for the riders, but the problem is that the market is always open’.
Pernat also claimed for regulations in the rider market after some deals being closed just before the Valencia test: ‘Dorna should regulate and set rules about the transfer market, as happens in other sports, where you can only recruit during certain periods. It’s very easy, for example, to say the transfer season will be in September. And after that period, the subject would no longer be discussed. End of story’.
Lastly, the manager commented on the results of the tests that took place in Valencia last week. The performances of Marc Márquez and Franco Morbidelli were mentioned: ‘Comparing the two, now both have good bikes, Márquez performed very well, as we expected, but Franco did not’.
