After praising the race that Maverick Viñales and and Pedro Acosta performance in Austin, Davide Tardozzi doesn’t want to get on excuses to why the Ducati weren’t that good, not even complaining about the tyre selection, which caused a few issues during last year in some races.
Speaking to Sky, quoted on Motosan, the Team Manager of the Ducati Lenovo Team highlighted that the choices made were right: ‘The tyre choice for Ducati was absolutely right, as demonstrated by Enea’s 2:03.2s on the last lap’ he said, before explaining that there are other things that affect the tyre performance: ‘Then if other bikes have different characteristics, wear the tyres more and can’t afford the luxury of soft tyres in the race, that’s another matter’.
Tardozzi also looked at the competition’s bikes and how it used the tyre more: ‘On average they used bikes that have other characteristics, as far as we know Acosta’s soft in the Sprint was very worn. I think if KTM and Aprilia had used the soft they would have used it more than us, if I had been Viñales I would have chosen the medium because with the potential shown he could have won the race, as he did, with less performance tyre’.
The best Ducati did, in terms of results, was a second place from Marc Márquez (Gresini Racing) on the Sprint race, while Enea Bastianini was third on the long race.
