It was back in 2020 when Speed Up took on Fermín Aldeguer, when the rider was only 15 years old but already showing immense promise. The following year, he became the European Moto2 champion, and now he’s one of the top contenders for the world title in the category. All of this under the guidance of Luca Boscoscuro.
The team owner spoke to SPEEDWEEK.com about this investment in the Spanish rider: ‘I signed a contract with Fermín in 2020, and in 2021, he competed with us in the Moto2 European Championship. I’m pleased that he has now flourished into a winning rider. He could have won the world championship in 2022, but he still lacked experience and knowledge of the tracks. He had a lot of talent. The extent of his talent is incredible’.
When Boscoscuro discovered Aldeguer, the rider’s desire was to compete in the Moto3 World Championship, but it wasn’t the path set by the team. The owner explained it was due to a question of stature: ‘Fermín is over 1.80m tall. He had already grown too much for Moto3 at 14. That’s why I placed him in the Moto2 European Championship in 2021, and he won nine out of 11 races in his first attempt. The other two races were won by my rider, Alonso López’.
