Aston Martin placed its two drivers in the top five of the qualifying round of the São Paulo Formula 1 Grand Prix. Fernando Alonso finished fourth, even behind teammate Lance Stroll, with the weekend at Interlagos starting encouragingly after recent difficulties.
The two-time world champion admitted that it was a sought-after and necessary outcome: ‘We needed this qualifying result. We have been experimenting a bit in the last few races, and we were looking for a good result for both cars here in Brazil. I think this weekend showed that we have understood some things about our car in the last few races.’
Regarding the remaining part of the Brazilian round, Alonso stated: ‘I hope we have a clean weekend starting with a good Sprint. We have a very good starting position for the race on Sunday, so we are looking forward to it. Hopefully, this was the last rain, and we will start again in the Sprint.’
