This Wednesday, Formula 1 announced the veto of Andretti Cadillac’s candidacy to enter Formula 1 in 2025 or 2026. The championship organizers consider that the project did not demonstrate added value or guarantees of being competitive or having sufficient recognition among fans.
This rejection comes after, at first, the FIA gave the “green light” to the candidacy in the phase when the process of admitting new teams was on its side. The federation has already commented on the new developments in a short statement that reads:
– The FIA notes the announcement of Formula One Management regarding the Expression of Interest process for Formula 1 World Championship teams. We are engaged in dialogue to determine the next steps.
Andretti currently competes in prominent championships such as Formula E or the IndyCar Series with success, and last year, FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem praised the candidacy for F1. However, FOM resists expanding the grid – also because the current teams are not very receptive to another team with whom to share the revenue “cake”.
