MotoGP rider Franco Morbidelli has opened up about his remarkable recovery from injury and his increasing performance in the recent MotoGP races. Despite a challenging start to the season, Morbidelli has shown impressive progress and adaptability and is already looking at the next season, where he has the wish to continue riding the Desmosedici.
Morbidelli’s journey began with a setback in January when he suffered a severe and serious injury. This forced him to miss crucial pre-season testing and training. As a result, he arrived at the season opener in Qatar feeling underprepared for the demands of World Championship racing, while making his way to recovery slowly, but sure, also in the races as he told quoted on GPOne:
– Yes. I’ve recovered really well from the injury in January, thanks to the whole team. We started without testing, without having ridden for a month, and without having been able to train before the World Championship started. So we showed up in Qatar in absolutely no condition to face the World Championship races, but we all managed to recuperate very quickly. Mostly thanks to the team and all the people supporting me, we were able to make this exponential improvement from race to race. At one point,I was fast, but I was starting badly. Then, as I improved my starts as well, I was able to stay in front in a more stable manner.
With the next season already in mind, and with the grid getting more and more set, Morbidelli still has to get his own situation sorted out, but highlighted that another year on the same bike could boost his chances of success: ‘We still have to wait. Definitely doing another year with the same bike will give me a better chance to do well because, by knowing everything better and being more comfortable, the possibility of doing well is definitely higher. Everything is still to be defined, though, so we’ll see’.
The italian is set to move to VR46 Racing Team, or to Gresini Racing, just like Fabio Di Giannantonio, Fermín Aldeguer or even… Miguel Oliveira, despite the latest to be pretty much certain at Pramac Racing/Yamaha, yet without it being official.
