Fabio Quartararo finished the Mugello GP in 18th position. The French rider managed to show good pace during the weekend and practice sessions at Mugello, but unfortunately missed out on Q2, which limited his race on Sunday.
In a debrief, the Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Team rider spoke about his race at the Italian circuit.
– At home, especially from mid-race I had an arm issue, so could not ride and we have to improve this area because it’s not my arm pump, it’s just that my arm is clearly on the limit in this kind of track so we have to find a solution. I think that the grip we are missing and the engine that is pushing us wide is making the bike super heavy and it’s the number one priority right now for us to find back the feeling we had in the past, especially on the change of direction. Yes, much more, especially on the grip. We don’t know why it was that much less in our case. I don’t expect the bike to be that heavy in the race. So we have to analyze well. All the weekend we struggle. But like in the race, when the grip is dropping a little bit, it’s even more difficult for us. I think that is difficult, of course, but you know, after Jerez I had the same and I had already twice the operation and everything looks fine, but the problem comes that basically I have no space, you know, like my muscle after the mid-race there was clearly on the limit.
He added whether the aerodynamics of the bikes could affect his physical condition on this type of circuit: ‘I don’t know what to do right now, you know, I think I’m training in the best way as I never trained, but you know, it’s difficult to say.No, because last year we had no problem and I think that the way we did our bike this year, something has been wrong. Because I think that even if we are making steps forward, from the beginning of the year we feel that the bike is super heavy and we have to adjust it. So we have to find what is the main thing that is making this bike that complicated.’
