After the release of images from Ferrari’s recent Formula 1 test at Fiorano, my initial impression of their upgrade package at Imola was that it was quite limited. However, upon closer examination of the photos from the Imola paddock, it appears to be a comprehensive package that, if successfully implemented, should result in a significant performance improvement.
One interesting aspect of the front wing flap assembly is the long main plane located at the outer end. This design choice reduces the camber and total chord length, potentially enhancing aerodynamic performance. Additionally, Ferrari has incorporated a detail that opens up the endplate to the tire, increasing the dispersion. However, the effectiveness of this dispersion is still a subject of debate.
The most notable change is seen in the radiator inlet. Comparing the old and new designs, it is clear that Ferrari took inspiration from Red Bull’s introduction in 2024. Previously, Ferrari used a vertical inlet suspected to be connected to the outlet duct next to the cockpit. This layout formed an ‘S-duct’ to alleviate boundary layer buildup on the chassis. Now, Ferrari has incorporated this feature into the cooling inlet itself. This modification allows Ferrari to maintain the inlet volume while improving mass flow through the undercut at the front corner of the sidepod.
By reducing the impact of the flow exiting from the rear edge of the front wing on the cooling system, Ferrari can approach the cooling limit required by the power unit package. The previous ‘S-duct’ outlet, designed to reduce boundary layer buildup, had limited remaining energy in its output flow. Additionally, a turning vane was used to assist in cleaning the airflow. However, these features likely had a negative impact on the overall structure of the upper body surface flow. Now, Ferrari has focused on optimizing this flow structure with a new turning vane.
Furthermore, Ferrari relocated the upper cooling outlet and increased its size. Proper sizing of this type of outlet is crucial to avoid reverse flow when the radiator is blocked. To manage this outlet flow, a series of adjustable louvers can be used. Ferrari also opened a small air intake in the rear section of the floor, which connects to the forced airflow inside the tire as it rotates on the track surface. This airflow helps seal the floor and may contribute to drag reduction.
The sidepod design, often referred to as the ‘ski ramp’, is particularly notable. By directing the flow towards the central part of the diffuser and improving the effectiveness of the ‘coke bottle’ area, Ferrari is able to divert more flow from the front face of the tire.
The pullrod adjuster, used to quickly optimize the rear height of the car, is simple yet effective. In the ground effect era, where porpoising is a significant risk, a complicated adjuster would hinder performance.
Finally, the detail on the outer edge of the main plane of the rear wing and on the upper flap is impressive. This design aims to reduce the vortices created by pressure differences on the wing and endplate surfaces, minimizing the formation of tail feathers in humid conditions.
Although there may be further developments in the crucial area of the floor, Ferrari’s current package is impressive. However, its effectiveness will only be determined over time. Ferrari conducted a filming day to ensure correlation with its simulations, and with Imola’s proximity to Maranello, the team will certainly be working tirelessly to optimize its performance.

Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton is facing a major controversy after being caught at a secret party amid the pandemic. The images, which circulated on social media, show Hamilton without a mask and disregarding social distancing measures. The incident has sparked outrage among sports fans and criticism of the driver’s behavior.
The party took place at a secret location and was attended by several people, including celebrities and other drivers. Authorities are investigating the case and Hamilton may face legal consequences for his participation in the event.
This is not the first time Hamilton has been involved in controversies related to the pandemic. Last year, he was criticized for traveling to tourist destinations while the world faced travel restrictions. Additionally, the driver has also been questioned for his views on vaccination and virus-fighting measures.
Sports fans are disappointed with Hamilton’s behavior and are calling for him to be held accountable for his actions. Many believe that the driver’s attitude is irresponsible and shows a lack of respect for people’s health and safety.
Hamilton has not yet commented on the incident, but it is expected that he will make a statement soon. Meanwhile, the controversy continues to gain traction and raises questions about the responsibility of athletes in the midst of the pandemic.
It is important to remember that we all must follow the recommendations of health authorities and respect safety measures to protect ourselves and others. The pandemic is not over yet and it is essential that everyone does their part to control the spread of the virus.
