George Russell believes that the Mercedes W15 is not suitable for the Australian Grand Prix. Mercedes had a disappointing start to the 2024 Formula 1 season, and the qualifying session in Australia only added to their difficulties. Russell mentioned that the Albert Park circuit in Melbourne does not favor his car, the W15. He also noted that the W15 has a limited performance window, making it difficult to control, and acknowledged that the team needs to work on improving the car’s performance in high-speed corners. This issue became apparent throughout the practice sessions, as both drivers faced challenges in high-speed corners. The W15 lacks speed in these areas, making the Albert Park circuit particularly challenging for Russell and Lewis Hamilton. The disappointing result in qualifying led the Silver Arrows’ Track Engineering Director to comment on the situation. He mentioned that the pace of the W15 seemed to disappear between the third practice session and qualifying. However, he remained optimistic, stating that the unpredictable nature of the Albert Park track could lead to incidents and unexpected results. Only time will tell if the Silver Arrows can achieve a favorable result in tomorrow’s Grand Prix.
