Glenn Coldenhoff (MXGP) and Lucas Coenen (MX2) were the winners of the qualifying races at the MXGP of the Netherlands. The round in Arnhem, held on a sandy track, was marked by Ducati’s debut in MXGP with Tony Cairoli.
In the main category, Coldenhoff (Fantic Racing) made the holeshot and led from start to finish. Jorge Prado (Red Bull GasGas) was his main pursuer for much of the race, but in the final minutes, he was overtaken by Romain Febvre (Kawasaki). The Frenchman still challenged Coldenhoff, but the Dutchman sealed the victory with a 0.970s advantage.
Prado crossed the line in fourth ahead of Jeffrey Herlings (Red Bull KTM), with Tim Gajser (Team HRC) in fifth. Cairoli debuted the new Desmo450 MX in MXGP after a few months of competition in Italy. The Italian was in the top five but ended up finishing seventh, over half a minute behind the winner.
Sacha Coenen (Red Bull KTM) made the holeshot in the MX2 qualifying race and led the first two laps before being overtaken by his brother Lucas (Nestaan Husqvarna). He went on to dominate the proceedings, winning by 21.785s ahead of Kay de Wolf (Nestaan Husqvarna).
The championship leader recovered from an incident on the first lap and reached second place on the final lap when he overtook Liam Everts (Red Bull KTM). Andrea Adamo (Red Bull KTM) was also involved in the incident with de Wolf and finished fourth, with Mikkel Haarup (Monster Energy Triumph) in fifth.
