The Honda Automóveis, Honda Motos, and Speedy Forever Association have celebrated a partnership to honor the extraordinary achievements of Paulo Gonçalves, an icon in motorcycle rallies, with a sculpture.
The artwork, which will be created by sculptor Paulo Maria, using the art of welding on a set of mechanical and metal pieces, will portray Paulo Gonçalves in action on his motorcycle. It will be a representation, twice the size of the actual rider, capturing the essence of the honoree’s passion and skill.
Throughout his career, Paulo Gonçalves achieved an impressive collection of 24 national titles, along with a vast international record, positioning himself as one of the best riders in the world in his category. In addition to his sporting performance, the special connection to Honda – the brand he represented for several years – adds a unique dimension to this tribute.
The inauguration ceremony of the sculpture is scheduled for February 2024 and will take place in Esposende, Paulo Gonçalves’ hometown. It is worth mentioning that the rider lost his life during one of the stages of the 2020 Dakar Rally, leaving an indelible legacy in the history of motorsport.
