The CBR1000RR-R Fireblade takes a huge step forward in development, with its 1000 cm³ in-line four-cylinder engine, semi-camshaft distribution and new control tuning to give even stronger acceleration at medium rpm and high power at high rpm. The engine head, compression ratio, valve train and springs have all been revised; the crankshaft and connecting rods are now lighter and the gearbox has shorter ratios.
The 2-motor TBW system offers high-precision control and feel at low rpm, with more engine-brake effect if needed. The diamond-type aluminum frame has a new, more flexible character, to improve steering precision as well as traction. The specifications also include a swingarm similar to that of the RC213V-S, an IMU unit for measuring inertia with six axles and a 3-level HESD steering damper; the entire suspension is competition quality, from Öhlins (S-EC03), with piston valves and OBTi interface.
The instrument panel also has a new guide for adjusting the preload. The brakes are from Brembo, with the new Stylema R four-piston calipers at the front. The new front fins create a downward force on the bike, but have 10% less yaw when cornering. The riding position has also been adjusted to give the rider greater control. The TFT color display offers intuitive control of the riding modes and adjustment of the power levels (P), engine brake effect (EB), HSTC system, anti-wheelie system (W) and start mode; all settings have been revised to match the new power delivery and gear ratios. The cornering ABS now includes an additional RACE mode. ESS emergency brake flashers and the Smart Honda Key system continue to add the finishing touch.
