Brad Binder finished the Dutch GP in sixth place, making some progress during the Assen round despite challenges in the main race.
The South African from Red Bull KTM acknowledged that their strategy to use the soft rear tyre did not yield the expected results, ultimately complicating the race: ‘It was a bit difficult. I got quite a good launch, but I didn’t quite get any real moves done early on. We decided to go with the soft rear tyre to try and go with the front boys early on, but the reality is that their pace was super high and even to just try and stick with them we were using a lot of the rear tyre. So I knew already ten laps into the race that we would going to be in trouble because obviously the soft was already dropping. I knew I was using more tyre than I should to just sit there’.
After a weekend without incidents and securing sixth place in both races, Binder highlighted the improvements made, with the aim of making progress to finally be in contention at the top:
– I think we got really just take the things that we’ve learned this weekend – a little bit with the setup changes, a little bit with things we’ve tried to try and find that next step. Because it’s clear we need to make a step to be fighting amongst the top guys. But other than that, OK, we finished the race, which is nice. I did all the weekend without crashing, so clearly we found something that gave me a better feeling with the front, and that was one of the big goals coming up because I’ve been losing the front every race and not knowing why.
