Maverick Viñales secured third place in the qualifying session for the MotoGP Italian Grand Prix. As he finished right behind Francesco Bagnaia, he will start second in the main race in Mugello, thanks to the three-place penalty imposed on his Ducati rival.
The Aprilia rider commented in an interview with the official broadcast: ‘I did a little highside, so I’ve lost a lot. However, it was good to push the maximum. It’s not an easy track for us, for sure in the main straight we are losing a little bit. But it’s a pleasure to do this kind of lap times in Mugello, to ride fast with confidence. An amazing atmosphere here, I love the Italian tracks, so I will try to do a great race’.
After a challenging Catalan GP, Viñales has no doubts that he is back to performing well: ‘I feel good, we recovered the potential. For sure the lap times were very fast; I think we didn’t expect to be that fast. However, I was feeling good behind Pecco and then I did it again alone’.
Finally, the Spaniard commented: ‘We are going to try to be in a good position at the first corner and then we are going to try to fight back’.
