Raul Fernandez finished the Mugello GP in 12th position. The Spanish rider moved up to 12th in the championship with 32 points, one more than his teammate Miguel Oliveira.
In his debrief, the Spanish rider spoke about his race and a small setback that restricted the Trackhouse Racing rider.
– At the end we fight with them. I mean, I am happy with the work that we did again this weekend. Ducati is quite strong. We saw that they are one step in front of all of us. I mean, also KTM was fighting with us more or less, but Ducati looks like they are on another level. Today I had problems again. Since the beginning of the year I have had problems again with my arm pump and again next Tuesday I have to have surgery again. So it is something that I am happy with the work. But on the last seven laps I had to manage the last race and the same since the beginning of the year. I’m happy because we saw what the problem was. I’m happy with the work that we are doing. But honestly, like this, it’s quite difficult to try the bike. Today I have a lot of problems. I tried to win the race. I did my maximum. I tried to win the race in a good position. Today I had a lot of problems with my arm. But anyway, now we have a solution and for the future, I cannot repeat because also in Barcelona, when I was with Marc and Aleix, I lost the podium fighting for this problem. I will fly tomorrow and on Tuesday I will have surgery.I didn’t say anything to you before because I wanted to be focused. It’s true that before coming here I was on the doctor. We saw that it was a little bit again. So it was not easy for me to be really focused on the weekend. But I think we did a good job. I’m happy, nd now we have to think about the recovery.
He added about the influence the bike could have on his physical condition compared to the Ducati riders: ‘I mean our bike is a little bit more difficult. In Ducati I think not a lot of riders have the surgery, but it depends on how you prepare or how you train. This is simple. You have a lot of muscle and this is the problem on the arm pump. It’s not a big surgery, but I don’t know. It is part of the game. Now also I saw a lot of Moto2 riders with these kinds of problems. I think it’s because every year we are faster, faster and faster and it’s quite difficult to be at the top level. We have more races, we have now Sprint races, but this is part of the game. I mean, we have to be ready for that. I love to ride a bike and I want to be at 100%.’
