Raul Fernandez ended the first day in Assen in 9th position and with direct access to Q2. The Spanish driver showed great speed throughout the day and shows good potential for the rest of the weekend.
In his debrief, Raul spoke about the first day in the Netherlands: ‘It was very important, because now we’ll have enough time to work tomorrow morning before qualifying. It was very good. Also, we’ll have to prepare the tires. Every time I’ve been in Q2, I’ve had to go to Q1 first and I’ve lost one of those tires. So now I’ll have the option of fighting with them for some good places on the grid. But anyway, I’m happy. I think we worked really well. I can’t say anything bad, except that the last time I attacked I was unlucky to see two yellow flags, but I have room to improve, so it’s good, everything is fine and I’m happy. I’m very happy to be in Q2, which is always our first thing when it’s Friday.
He added about his recent arm operation: ‘I feel great. On the bike, in FP1 I had a few problems, especially on the first lap, so I felt good. But from the second I was ready. Now we’re lucky to have this kind of physiotherapist with us. They’ve improved a lot with the new clinic.’
