The MotoGP preseason has come to an end, and now Pedro Acosta will only return to the track in a competitive context in his first season in the premier class. This week he set the 15th fastest time in the Qatar tests.
The Red Bull GasGas Tech3 rider leaves Losail satisfied, after completing an encouraging race simulation: ‘I’m happy, because we did the first race simulation and was good. It’s true that in two or three laps I made huge mistakes because I locked at turn 1 and turn 16 and I went wide. And I crashed in the lap four, and for this i said: «I cannot crash again». But the general pace in these 22 laps was great. Also we were working with the fuel consumption maps to be ready to understand these things. It was good’.
Regarding lap time, Acosta admitted that it could have been better: ‘We missed a bit the time because we started to do the time attack too late. But anyway we improved half a second or so. It’s true maybe we were able to improve a little bit more, but we are there. We’re not so far at the moment’.
Despite not finishing as high in the timesheet as in Sepang, Acosta assured that he is satisfied with the work done and admitted that he is far from the level of experience of the other riders:
– Well, if I could chose, I’d prefer to be more at the top, but it’s not possible to chose. But anyway I’m happy because we improved a lot the pace, we improved a lot inside the box, we improved a lot the lap time. It’s true that it could be better, it could be worst, but we are in the point we are. We know we did eight days of testing, but it isn’t enough compared to the experience these guys have. I saw myself in mid-day and I was fifht. And then when we started to make lap times was like «boom». They know how to do it and they know what to do. It’s true I’ve learned a lot of things, but there’s still 90% to go. It’s still a long, long, long way about the managing, about the way to talk in the box. I think we have to be happy, but not happy enough.
