Fabio Di Giannantonio set the fastest time in the MotoGP tests held yesterday at Jerez. The Pertamina Enduro VR46 rider completed a lap in 1m36.405s and edged out Maverick Viñales (Aprilia) by 0.087s.
The Italian was pleased with the work done but also expressed frustration at people being surprised by his speed: ‘We just tried to be focused on the areas to improve and we worked so well and we’ve improved. But I’m a little bit tired that is always a surprise that I’m fast. I think we are strong with the team, the team is fantastic and also for this we made an incredible job in this test. Also with the help of Ducati that they gave us some updates. So it was important to try many things and we’ve been fast’.
Asked if there are any weaknesses he needs to work on, Di Giannantonio confirmed: ‘As a rider yes, for sure. I always try to improve my riding style. But also on the bike we were missing something – especially in the last part of the braking. Because the GP23 pushes a lot the front and it’s difficult to take the right line to prepare well the exit. And we’ve improved on that area, so that’s really good’.
Regarding the type of corners where the weaknesses manifest, the #49 replied: ‘It’s more in slow corners, like turns 1, 2, 6, 9 and 13, it’s where you struggle the most. But sometimes also in turn 8, for example. Let’s see if we improve in the slow corners you can take this advantage also in the fast corners’.
