Marc Márquez returned to the podiums at the MotoGP Catalan GP, finishing third. The Gresini rider started from 14th, but managed to recover to third with an overtake near the end on Aleix Espargaró (Aprilia).
In the interview with the official broadcast, the eight-time world champion explained why he opted for the soft tyre: ‘I chose the soft, I knew it was risky, but this was the only solution to attack from the beginning – because normally if you are with the medium, you are stuck there behind the others at the beginning and then it’s not possible to overtake. So that 14th place forced me to put the soft’.
Then, Márquez commented: ‘Unluckly today I started bad, I didn’t make a good start, and then step by step I knew that the race was long, I didn’t stress the tyres, and when I overtook Aleix, I tried to push, but the tyre was already finished. But I was able to defend the position. I’m super happy’.
Finally, the #93 said: ‘Sorry for Aleix, because this was his last race here in Circuit de Catalunya. But I’m happy that in a difficult circuit we are with the top guys again’.
