After a long journey in the MotoGP paddock, Álvaro Bautista decided to switch to the Superbike World Championship in 2019. After a good start, he had a less successful period, including two years with Honda (2020 and 2021) marked by limited opportunities… before returning to Aruba.it Ducati to dominate since 2022.
Coming from MotoGP, there might have been the impression among the public that the Spaniard would have an easy task. However, in statements to the GPOne.com website, the Spaniard emphasized that this is not the case:
– People thought it was easy in Superbike, but we have seen many riders move from SBK to MotoGP and struggle. I believe that SBK is simply a different championship.
Reflecting on his MotoGP career, Bautista considers that under different conditions, he could have achieved different results: ‘Unfortunately, in MotoGP I didn’t show that with a good team and a good bike I could have aspired to better results’.
In MotoGP from 2010 to 2018, the double Superbike World Champion was with the factory teams of Suzuki and Aprilia, as well as with Gresini and Aspar. Three third places were his best results.
