Francesco Bagnaia won the MotoGP German GP after spending much of the race chasing Jorge Martín (Prima Pramac/Ducati). The Ducati rider, who was also behind Franco Morbidelli (Prima Pramac/Ducati) in third place for some laps, inherited the lead on the penultimate lap following Martín’s crash.
The Italian, who is now the new championship leader, stated in a press conference that he managed his race when he was in third place: ‘Today I was just trying to be very, very precise with the rear tyre, because I knew the more tyre I had, better it would be. So I tried everything. When I saw that both Pramacs overtook me, they were pushing a bit too much. So I just decided to slow down a bit, wait a bit, and then I pushed back’.
Then, Bagnaia commented: ‘Maybe I lost a bit too much behind Franky, because then Jorge had more than one second and then I tried to push back to recover to Jorge. I was very close, but then he crash unluckly. I think it could have been one of the greatest battles between us on the last lap’.
In any case, this victory is a sweet one for the 2022 and 2023 champion, as he highlighted: ‘I’m happy, it’s the fourth win in a row on Sunday, so I’m happy for it and for sure it’s the best way to go with a big smile to the summer break’.
