For the second consecutive season, Francesco Bagnaia secured the MotoGP World Championship, achievements that naturally pleased the Ducati sporting director, Paolo Ciabatti.
The Italian was quoted by the newspaper Marca, saying: ‘It is clearly a great joy at the end of a season that was long and in which we saw great riders fighting for the title until the end. Obviously, I didn’t like seeing Jorge [Martín], who was a bit nervous after the mistake he made. Enea [Bastianini] also made a mistake, but, above all, I feel for Jorge, who had an incredible end to the season, was almost unbeatable in the sprint races. Pecco was strong, but he also made mistakes in Austin, Argentina, and also India. But he always showed in all the races, even the ones he didn’t finish, that he was always at the front, fighting.’
Ciabatti acknowledged that 2023 will be hard to replicate: ‘That said, it was an incredible season for Ducati, with three riders in the top three positions. It will be a difficult season to repeat, but as always, we will try to do even better, but this will, in general terms, be a year for Ducati to remember’.
