With a new lap record at Misano, Jorge Martín secured pole position for the MotoGP San Marino Grand Prix races on Saturday. The Prima Pramac rider completed a lap in 1m39.390s, beating Marco Bezzecchi (Mooney VR46 Racing Team/Ducati) by 0.397s.
Asked in the official broadcast if he feels that this was the best lap of his life, the #89 denied: ‘No, no, it wasn’t for sure. It was a great lap, a great weekend overall’.
Martín then addmited that he was worried about the soft tyre, but he took a lot of risk to achieve the lap for pole position: ‘I’ve been super competitive during all the practices with the medium rear [tyre] in terms of pace. I was a bit worried about today, because I was not feeling really good with the soft. But then I did all-in on that lap, behind Dani [Pedrosa]. I braked super late in some corners, I was a bit wide in corner eight actually. But I took a lot of risk to do make this pole position and I’m so proud of my team and also myself to be back in this position’.
