The Sprint race puts MotoGP riders in the fight for points, but it also allows them to gather data and information that can be useful for refining their strategy for the main race, which is the most important.
At the Italian Grand Prix, Miguel Oliveira hardly participated in the Sprint race: right at the beginning of the second lap, he had an accident with Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha), forcing him to retire.
As a result, unlike some of his competitors, the Portuguese rider didn’t have much real race data to rely on before Sunday’s race at Mugello.
Would completing the Sprint race in full have made a difference? Oliveira (Trackhouse Racing/Aprilia) replied: ‘For sure it would have been helpful to do the Sprint. For sure maybe today we could have done different changes and that’s it, really’.
