Ivan Ortolá secured his first pole position in the Moto3 World Championship. Competing at home in the Catalan Grand Prix, the Spaniard prevailed in this afternoon’s qualifying session in Barcelona.
Initially, only seven riders took to the track, with Matteo Bertelle (Rivacold Snipers Team/Honda) being the fastest, 0.358s ahead of his teammate Romano Fenati. Deniz Öncü (Red Bull KTM Ajo) was the next rider to take the lead, with Ayumu Sasaki (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP) closely pursuing him.
The Turkish rider was then overtaken by Jaume Masiá (Leopard Racing/Honda). However, the results were far from settled, and after the usual pit stops halfway through the session, everything changed at the front.
With his final lap, Ortolá (Angeluss MTA Team/KTM) secured pole position, outpacing Öncü by 0.304s. Joel Kelso (CFMoto Racing PrüstelGP) finished third, while Masiá came in fourth despite improving on his last attempt.
