Winner of the Monaco E-Prix, Mitch Evans expressed his belief that the performance of both Jaguars was superior to their rivals throughout the day of competition. He also mentioned that both he and his teammate, Nick Cassidy, will have the opportunity to compete for the FIA Formula E championship title. The New Zealand driver, who had previously achieved three consecutive podiums without a win, finally emerged victorious in Season 10 by crossing the finish line first on the famous streets of Monaco. This victory put him back in the championship contention, alongside his compatriot Cassidy, who secured second place for the team. Despite his disappointment at not securing pole position in qualifying, Evans acknowledged that there was potential in the car and believed he had a favorable position to challenge for the win in the race. He emphasized that both cars showed strong pace throughout the day.
Evans also addressed Stoffel Vandoorne’s assessment of the race, with the Belgian stating: “To be honest, I was quite confident, the Safety Car didn’t have much impact on that.
“Stoffel made his first attack and there was a yellow flag in the attack zone, so he passed freely because I couldn’t overtake him, and then the Safety Car came in, so if anything, I really helped him in that situation.
“I believe we executed the race better than them, plain and simple.
“We had a slight advantage in terms of track position, but if JEV was ahead of Nick, it would be a different story, as Nick and I were following closely and had control over them.
“Throughout the race, I felt we had them under control, and from a strategic and pace perspective, I felt stronger, so regardless, I believe we would have had them covered.
“It might have been a bit more challenging to secure a one-two, but I believe the result would have been the same.”
With Evans and Cassidy now back in the title fight, Evans dismissed any notion that the Jaguar team would favor one driver over the other at this stage of the season.
“I think it’s too early to determine.
“Both have a shot at the title, so it’s premature to focus on just one driver.
“Yes, he is currently the leading Jaguar driver, but we are only halfway through the season and I am just one win away from the lead.
“The team will be fair in this aspect – last year, when Sam [Bird, former teammate] was out of the title race, he was asked to help when he could, so unless one of us has a major setback between now and the end of the season, we will both have a fair chance to compete for the title. Race results will depend on circumstances.
“If we look at Riyadh, I helped Nick during the race with his Attack Modes, he helped me, and I anticipate it will be the same until one of us is no longer in contention.
“We are working together very effectively, aiming to widen the points gap for the Team Championship, and I don’t see the team focusing on just one driver.”
