Jaume Masiá set the pace at the first practice session of the Moto3 Thai GP in Buriram on Friday. The session saw several riders leading at some point, with the outcome decided less than a minute before the end.
After the initial flying laps, Masiá (Leopard Racing/Honda) was at the top of the timesheets, with seven other riders having passed through there in the early stages. The Spaniard solidified his position but was then overtaken by Joel Kelso (CFMoto Racing PrüstelGP). Shortly afterward, Ayumu Sasaki (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP) reached the top.
The Japanese rider remained in first place for almost a quarter of an hour before three changes in leadership in less than two minutes: Deniz Öncü (Red Bull KTM Ajo), Ryusei Yamanaka (Gaviota GasGas Aspar), and Diogo Moreira (MT Helmets-MSi/KTM).
With less than a minute to go, Masiá stopped the clock at 1m42.318s to be the fastest in the session, beating Moreira by 0.243s. Yamanaka finished third, with David Alonso (Gaviota GasGas Aspar) in fourth. Sasaki completed the top five.
