Jett Lawrence and Tom Vialle claimed their second victories in a row in AMA Supercross in 450SX and 250SX East, respectively, last Saturday. The ninth round of the season took place at Protective Stadium in Birmingham.
In the premier category, Lawrence (Team Honda HRC) led from the first lap of the main event after grabbing the holeshot, but his opponents were never far behind. Cooper Webb (Monster Energy Star Yamaha) prevailed in the battle for second place and finished 2.445s behind the winner. Ken Roczen (Progressive Insurance Ecstar Suzuki) finished third, 14.474s behind, followed by Chase Sexton (Red Bull KTM). Lawrence remains at the top of the championship, now 13 points ahead of Webb.
In 250SX East, Vialle (Red Bull KTM) took the holeshot and by the end of the first lap, he already had over two seconds lead. The French rider extended his lead to over six seconds at one point but slowed down in the final laps and crossed the finish line 2.731s ahead of Cameron McAdoo (Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki). The American had a fierce battle for second place, ultimately overtaking his teammate Seth Hammaker. Pierce Brown (Troy Lee Designs Red Bull GasGas) finished fourth, 11.091s off the lead. With five rounds remaining, Vialle took the lead in the 250SX East with a one-point advantage over McAdoo. He also surpassed Brown, who dropped to third place.
