The SX Daytona International Speedway hosted another round of the AMA Supercross 450, with Jett Lawrence being the highlight. Although he didn’t lead every lap, the truth is that the rookie once again won the main event of the night and strengthened his lead in the championship.
The main event of the weekend that everyone had been waiting for began with a last-minute change before its official start, with Jett Lawrence changing his rear tyres after the preparation lap, and with the gates opening shortly afterwards it was precisely Lawrence, Eli Tomac, Chase Sexto and Dylan Ferrandis who moved to the front of the race, with #1 taking the lead.
Tomac followed closely behind and Ferrandis secured third place, leaving Lawrence in fourth. The crowd cheered as Sexton and Tomac passed on different lines on the split track, taking the green flag in a great moment at Daytona.
Surprising the crowd, Ken Roczen entered the fray alongside Jett Lawrence and Ferrandis, claiming fourth as the race intensified. Tomac gained ground on Sexton, but a sudden manoeuvre by Lawrence on the long straight after the mechanics’ area saw him pass Tomac and then Sexton in a breathtaking sequence to take the lead.
In an incredible display of skill, the #18 widened the gap, leaving the competition further behind, with Tomac overtaking Sexton shortly afterwards to take second place, but far behind Lawrence who already had a “comfortable” lead.
The race would end with the Honda rider taking the win with a lead of 5.889s over Tomac, while Sexton took the final spot on the podium.
